I know of someone who just named their daughter Amalie but pronounce it like Emily with an "Am" instead of an "Em". It's very confusing and even the baby's grandfather accidentally refers to the baby as Amelia because their pronunciation is so mind boggling.
The German pronunciation is ah-MAH-lee-ə. [noted -ed]
This is my name, and I'm named after my great-aunt (or some other obscure relative) who came straight out of Norway. My family pronounces it like Amalia.
The Scandinavian pronunciation is Ah-Mah-Lee-eh.
German pronunciation is "Ah-Mah-lee".
