Pretty and youthful very cute sounding.
This is a very cutesy name! It reminds me of pastel colours with fluffy pillows, flowers, perfume and desserts.
This name is very common in my country, Indonesia. I love how it is used worldwide.
I think it sounds Scandinavian and has an unusual and cute sound. Very unique and sweet.
So pretty for a little girl.
Ugly name. It's like naming your kid Willy instead of Williams. It does work as an HYPOCORISM of Ana although it still doesn't sound very good tbh.
This one always reminds me of Anita Radcliffe, Roger's pretty wife from 101 Dalmatians. It's beautiful when the "t" is pronounced as a "t", which is not what Americans do. Away from America, it's a sweet sounding name, and maybe it can be chosen out of piety, since it's a diminutive of Anne/ Anna.
A Latin version of the English name 'Anne'. Sounds younger and more interesting to me.
I think it sounds cute, unusual, intellectual, nerdy, and wholesome. Anyone saying stupid things in this comment section is just an idiot. I bet they're called something extremely dull.
It's a gorgeous name.
It's not bad, just, not of my favorites. Feels a little bit dry and boring.
This name is wise, gentle, and nurturing, it reminds me of a mother.
Too bad so many people find the name horrible or have had bad experiences with it. I think Anita seems to me a much prettier version than the simple and boring Anne. Anita is pretty, it even seems a little adorable to me. I think people should give it a try. There is also the option of Anika, although I prefer Anita.
It's horrible.
Anita Bath.
I've changed my mind. I like this name.
It's okay, but I wouldn't use it.
It's pretty, but I really dislike the "uh-nee-dah" pronunciation.
Anita is a nice name. It's a shame that it dropped off the list.
Love the "-ita" suffix at the end. Makes it sound especially nice to my ears.
Anita to me only works as a diminutive of Ana, as it seems kind of silly. Not too bad though, but I really dislike Anita Sarkeesian and it makes me think of a liberal extremist. No offense to other Anitas, I’m sure you’re not like her.
I don't like the idea that a bigoted anti gay conservative activist has the name, but this name would be fine without her, actually I may like it.
The only issue I ever had was people's pronunciation. In my case, it is ah-NEE-tah, crisp and clear! And NOT ahh-need-ugh... like something is stuck in the throat! I realize not everyone uses the same pronunciation! I am named after a great aunt, but the family is French Acadian, and I have always wondered how the name came to the family! I am Anita :) 51 years old and I have never heard one "I need a..." joke, and Anita Bryant is such old news that nobody seems to know the name anymore, so using it now seems perfect.
Sadly, Anita Bryant did a number on this name. The sound of the name is nice enough, but it will take a long time for it not to be associated with bigotry and hatred.
This is the best name ever... but I might be a little biased. :)
I love it - always thought it was a pretty name. I think it fits on young and old.
Anita Bryant and Anita Sarkeesian have really ruined this name. I think it's a terrible thing to call your child.
My name's Anita. I was born in the early 90's and have never met any one else with my name. However, I've never met anyone unfamiliar with it. And despite what other people say about those 'I need a' puns, I've never had anyone tease me. It gels nicely with my Italian surname. My only complaint is, on occasions, when someone in my proximity has said 'I need to (insert action here)', I have turned around thinking they were saying my name. I also once had an Indian man ask me why my name was Anita. He didn't know it was European name as well as an Indian one. I really appreciate my name now that I'm older. It's unique. And despite it being not in common use, it's still very pretty. I think it needs a comeback.
I really don't like this name. It's worn out, sets itself up for a bunch of "I need a" puns, and worst of all, it reminds me of one of those bratty police cadet sisters from El Tigre...
Anita is a very dull and dated name.
I think Anita is a beautiful name! It is short & sweet, while being strong & independent:)
Anita is hideously ugly and dated.
I love this name. It's also used in Croatia, and it's pronounced ah-NITT-ah. It doesn't sound like "I need a".
I adore this name and would name my daughter Anita. It is so perfect for a little girl just like Nina or Anya. It is feminine yet doesn't sound weak.
This is my name, and I can definitely say I have heard the "I need a" pun many, many times. However, as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate it. As an adult I've had many people tell me that it's a beautiful and unique name. Don't worry about teasing too much if you're considering this name, because children will find a way to make fun of any name if they try hard enough.
Americans, do your daughter a favor and do not name her this, as the name will inevitably lead to bad puns, especially with the wrong type of surname. In other countries, the name works quite differently, as it doesn't sound like ''I need a''.
I don't agree that Anita Bryant has ruined this name. Yeah, she's a bigot and not very concerned with hiding it, but her star has fallen and been fallen for many years. She's not much in the news anymore, I cannot recall the last time I heard her name in the press.
I think Anita is a very pretty and lively name. My problem with it is it just cries out for a moronic pun to be made out of it: Anita Mann, Anita Hooker, Anita Beer, Anita Beaton, you name it.
I think this is an elegant name, one that a child could easily grow up with and it isn't over used.
