Ashli Babbitt was a 35-year-old, 14-year U.S. Air Force veteran from California. A diehard Republican, she was one of the thousands of rioters who, on January 6, 2021, raided the US Capitol in protest of President Joe Biden's succession into presidency. After attempting to climb through a barricaded entry inside the Capitol, she was fatally shot by a police officer. She was given first aid, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. Although most consider her to have been merely an ordinary rioter, some have boldly hailed her as a martyr, claiming she was killed because of her political beliefs. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean.
