Augusto C. Sandino (May 18, 1895 – February 21, 1934) was a Nicaraguan revolutionary and leader of a rebellion between 1927 and 1933 against the U.S. military occupation of Nicaragua. He was called a "bandit" by the United States government; his exploits made him a hero throughout much of Latin America, where he became a symbol of resistance to United States domination.

Augusto Pinochet, while he was a dictator, wasn't necessarily too bad. One should remember that the thousands he killed were communist guerrillas that were raiding the farmland. He was very popular for doing so. So, point being, I don't think Augusto Pinochet ruins the name Augusto; besides, it's a very strong masculine name with an aura of respect -- one definition of the name is "venerable."
Now, here's a bit of history. Augusto comes from the name Augustus, and Augustus was the son of Julius Caesar. Augusto Pinochet back stabbed his friend in his rise to power, while Augustus's father, Julius (not father by blood, he was adopted), was back stabbed by others; but, it ultimately allowed him to rise to power as emperor. In other words, both men of the same first name rose to power with some sort of betrayal involved. I don't mean anything by this, just sharing some history and discussing two famous figures.

Augusto Roa Bastos was a Paraguayan novelist and short story writer. As a teenager he fought in the Chaco War between Paraguay and Bolivia, and he later worked as a journalist, screenwriter and professor. He is best known for his complex novel Yo el Supremo and for winning the Premio Miguel de Cervantes in 1989, Spanish literature's most prestigious prize. Yo el Supremo explores the dictations and inner thoughts of Dr. José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia, who ruled Paraguay with an iron fist and no little eccentricity from 1814 until his death in 1840.
