LOVE this name, I hope to use it for a future son. It actually has similar origin roots, Arabic roots, like Casper and possibly could mean 'Treasure of the Sea'. It also means 'white' in Greek.
The claim that Lewis "created" the name is misleading at best. As the previous commenter noted, the Caspian Sea was named that before Lewis created the character. He may have been the first to use it as a person's name.Apparently the word "Caspian" comes from the the city of Qazvin (Kasbin), which was named after the Cas, a tribe that lived south of the Caspian Sea. [noted -ed]
Didn't the author of the Narnia series name Prince Caspian as such because his family came to Narnia, but was originally from somewhere near the Caspian Sea?
