I always thought this sounded like the name of a medieval English nobleman or something, perhaps due to its similarity to “Chaucer.” It makes me think of someone fairly average-looking but still handsome, soft-spoken and unimposing, and a bit on the short side. As such, it’s been the name of every large and unusual pet in everything I’ve ever written featuring a large and unusual pet. “Have you seen Chauncey!? He escaped! Oh, there he is,” and then Chauncey is a fat llama. My apologies to all Chaunceys who aren’t fans of absurdist humor!
I think that this is an excellent name! It sounds intelligent and refined whilst maintaining a certain strength to it. It's also unusual without sounding too strange.
There seems to be a lot of negativity for this name. In my opinion, though, Chauncey is a nice, sophisticated name that suits people of all ages. It might sound a bit pompous, but I still think it's quite a good name!
Sounds rather pretentious.
I am a Chauncey, and on behalf of all Chaunceys everywhere, I hereby allow you to name children and pets Chauncey.
I love the name Chauncey! I'm surprised to see all the negativity. The nicknames Chaunce & Chance are great, too!
I've only ever known of black guys named Chauncey. Probably because they are the only guys who wouldn't automatically get their butt kicked for having such a prissy "beat up" name.
I know someone named Chauncey and yes, it's a little odd at first, but you get used to it and it just kind of "becomes" that person.
Hahaha, I love looking up the most ridiculous names and seeing all the negative comments. Chauncey does have an incredibly pompous sound to it, doesn't it?
Chauncey always reminds me of the Pokémon known as Chansey. On a person, it sounds like the name of an effeminate gay man. It's kind of pretentious anyway.
I think Chauncey is a good name for a dog.
My 18 year old grey cat is named Chauncey. My dad named him Chauncey because apparently his roommate in college called things a "Chauncey" if he didn't know what the object was really called. I think it's a good name for a pet, but I can't imagine it on a person.
Makes me think of a fat snob with a handle-bar mustache.
Wow, what a pretentios, elitist, snobby name. If parents name their son Chauncey, it's a pretty good sign they don't love him, but that he's just an extension of their ego and a tool for achievements that they can brag about to relatives and ''friends''.
A most excellent name for a pet rabbit. Or, at least my rabbit's named Chauncey. I can't imagine it on a person, though.
