Darla is so darling!
Wow guys! Some here have very nice things to say, others not so much. Ok so, my mother named me after Darla Hood from the Our Gang/Little Rascals crowd of sassy kids. However, I do realize Darla has been used negatively in media ie: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Finding Nemo, The Crow, etc. Why? I’m not evil or conniving or vindictive. Actually, I’m smart, friendly, talkative, very outgoing and fun loving. I’ve been told I’m very funny too. Whether you love it or hate it is personal preference but I do get a bad rap in movies and tv shows (with the exception of Darla Hood, of course!).
Beautiful as a nickname for Darlene, the meaning of which I adore.
I have strongly considered this name For my soon to arrive daughter. I have only ever met 2 Darla’s in my life. Both of them, ages apart were the kindest, most wholesome, classy and strong women. The unforgettable character of the younger of the two seems oddly affiliated with her name Darla. I was pleased to discover that name also has old English and Gaelic ties to a reference of Dearling or Dear Child. I love the rarity of the name but dislike the poignant disparaging uses of it in movies and television.
Sounds very cute and stylish. It's very southern belle-like and is much better than the redneck-sounding Darlene.
Darla is such a pretty name! It has a southern belle feel; really charming. It's cute and feminine with just a bit of sass.
Lovely name.
Pretty name.
I think Darla is better than Charla and Marla. I didn't know it is short for Darlene. Sounds a bit spunky and rebellious.
This name is soft, feminine, and nice compared to that redneck name Darlene.
Better than Darlene.
I am a Darla. I have many acquaintances named Darla. I like the name because it stands on it's own, not short for anything. Just right. :)
The name Darla was given to 172 baby girls born in the US in 2012.
I remember liking this quite a bit when I was very young, I had quite a few stuffed animals and even a tamagotchi named Darla, but at a certain point (junior high?) I started to realize how dated it sounded which is very. The name also seems to be given to unlikable characters in movies and doesn't always sound pretty in certain accents, not one suited for a come back.
Carla/Karla is much prettier.
Extremely feminine, while managing to be dark and vengeful.
I have never known a Darla, and I greatly enjoy the name.
It has a certain sass to it, along with the rolling R and L combination, that makes for an unforgettable name.
Disregard my previous comment-- I mean, this name is darling and cute and unique, but after watching the Crow I can not think of this name without thinking of Sarah's slutty mother and the way Sarah says this name with such disdain that it's almost a snarl. Ugh.
Darla is a beautiful name.
The name is harsh and it reminds me of a snotty little girl.
Darla was the meanest, snottiest girl I ever knew while I was growing up. I saw her later as an adult, and she hadn't changed a bit.
