I really like this for a boy. For a place name I think it's common enough to work really well, and he can always go by "Den" for a more traditional and common nickname.
I like this name! It feels mature, strong, fits perfectly for a male. It has class! Denver is a good name!
It doesn't sound nice to my ears and it's too hippy-ish. I don't like Austin either.
Not a fan! Just no!
All I can think of is the city in Colorado. Denver sounds strange as a person's name. Also, it's way too masculine for a girl.
My friend who is a girl with this name, I love it on her.
I am a Denver. Denver Dale, it's old English and means man from happy green valley. A farmer's name.
Why do people hate this name, but love the name Austin?I think Denver is a great name for a daughter/son. Especially with a city located near beautiful forests and mountains. Granted not all city names work, but I think this one does.
To the person who asked, "Why do people hate this name, but love the name Austin?" Because people like names for more than just their meaning -- they go by sounds. Austin sounds good to modern ears. It shares things with other popular names; many of the top 1000 names for boys end with N these days. Denver only has the same ending as Oliver and River on the top 1000 for boys. It doesn't have that cachet. Also, Austin, TX is a cool city. I don't get the feeling that most people feel that way about Denver, CO. I've never heard of Denver's music or art scene being popular.
I prefer this name for a city in Colorado, not a boy or a girl. Sounds awful.
Bad enough for boys (although Denver and the Rockies are pretty awesome), but this as well as Dallas and Sloan takes the stage for worst name ever used for poor, poor, girls.
I knew a girl with this name, sadly.
I was born in Colorado and I love this state, but the name Denver gives me the impression of #1: John Denver, great singer whose philosophy is overlooked by most who just see his lesbian-like appearance; #2: Denver is the most unattractive city in Colorado, so I would name my child Maroon Bell over Denver, if my aim was to choose a Colorado place name for my child.
Don't use this place name for your child. You might as well name him Kansas City. Denver's not even an interesting city.
Why on earth would any sane parent want to name their child anything that reminds people of Colorado? And this blatantly? Come on people, have some class. I bet the kid would hate the city.
