Elspeth is much better, in my opinion. With Elspet, you'll either get people calling her "pet," or saying "Elle's spit" (depending on their accent).

The girl would be teased for the 'pet'. It's nearly impossible that her classmates would miss that.

Well, I would never name my daughter that. Maybe a couple hundred years ago I would have. But not these days.
