Hala, Hale, Haley etc... all much nicer and actual names.

Neither Halo nor Haley are traditional names and yet they have both been used as given names hundreds of times. The only real difference is that Haley is more popular and has been around for longer. The fact that Halo had been used as a given name enough to rank in the US top 1000 makes it a name, albeit not a traditional name, but a name all the same. Another difference between Haley and Halo is that Halo is a word name, but if that difference means that Halo isn't an actual name, then neither are names like Summer and Amber.
