Hester

Sounds kind of Goth.

There’s a very alluring charm about the name Hester.

So beautiful and elegant. I like Esther too.

I love the name Hester. It is a unique name but it's still beautiful. Every time I hear the name I feel happy and warm inside. And to those people who don't like it, I hope you will one-day see the beauty in it. AND I PERSONALLY LOVE IT:)

Hester is such a lovely, soft-sounding name. I like Hester and Esther equally, I think they should be used more!

I like Hester, I think it is a name that denotes maturity, strength and courage. I think I'm one of the few who prefer it to Esther, that seems a bit boring to me. I like Hester better, it has style, class and even has a mysterious air. Yes, I wish I would hear it more out there.

Anyone who thinks of Hester and/or Esther as unisex names has more than one screw loose in their noggin. I like both names although Hester sounds more like it belongs to the past.

I knew a Hester once. Personally I wouldn't consider this name for my child, but I think it's a beautiful name for a 40-50 year old strong willed, important African American woman (think 'Hidden Figures')

Can't decide if I like this or not... On one hand, it sounds like a boy's name (probably because of Devon Hester of the Chicago Bears) but on the other it sounds like an interesting yet underrated girl's name. But it really does remind me of the Scarlett letter, and I've never even read that book.

In a hypothetical world where associations mean nothing, Hester Guinevere as a combination would be amazing.

I love this name! It has a lovely soft H in front of it. :) My great-grandmother's name was Hester Jane, which I think is a very beautiful name.

Seriously - how could anyone, after reading The Scarlet Letter, NOT like this name? It's a little old-fashioned, but certainly not hopeless. Hester Prynne had a lot of guts - and after a generation of Tiffanys, Jessicas, and Madisons, America definitely needs an influx of gutsier, stronger girls' names!

I like the meaning of "star", but like Esther, it has a very harsh, dry sound. I can't imagine it on a little girl, just on grandmothers.

It's prettier than Esther, and it doesn't sound as old-fashioned and so much like the name of some old, unattractive woman. This is one of the few names ending in -er that sound feminine, yet the name isn't too girly. The problem is that it kind of makes me think of a horse because of the Swedish word for 'horse', 'häst', which is pronounced ''HEST''. Besides, I wouldn't want the name of my child to be a variant of any name with a religious background.

I prefer this to Esther. I really do. Esther sounds like a word to me, Hester doesn't (although it means "horses" in Swedish or what was it?).

Sounds a bit mannish to me. I'd never use it for a child of mine. However, Esther is pretty and feminine.

I really don't like this name. It's sounds so harsh and cold to me. I much prefer the (sort of) similar Hestia.

This name is unigue, different and odd. Odd meaning a very good way. Hester is a pretty name. You don't hear it often. What the world needs is more unigue names, like this one!
