Jimmie

I don't even like Jim, but I prefer that over this name. Jimmie sounds juvenile and more fitting on a young boy than a grown-up. It also sounds a bit wimpy. This name is far too masculine for a girl.

Sorry, but I don't like Jimmie. It's the same for all the versions derived from James; I think it's a very boring pet name. In my opinion, Jacob and his nicknames are a lot better.

It is not awful on a girl in my opinion. And no, we didn't want a boy, or a Jamie. Her father's name is James, and he didn't want to name our son after him. We wanted her to have a strong name that wouldn't be the same as everyone else's. She is a very sweet, loving, FEMININE girl, who loves her dresses and makeup. She loves her name and the fact that she's not named Kayley or Kayla or whatever name seems to be popular at the moment.

The name Jimmie was given to 90 baby boys born in the US in 2012.

I think it would be pretty awful to name a girl Jimmie.

This name looks and sounds odd on a woman, even with the feminized spelling. At best, I could picture some old Southern belle named Jimmie, since boyish names on girls are (or at least used to be?) more common on Southerners. The spelling Jimmie also makes me think of the chocolate sprinkles used on ice-cream.

Regardless of the cutesy spelling, this is a pretty damn weird and boyish name for females. This would pretty much only sound acceptable on tomboys who look just like boys because they have yet to grow breasts and to have wider hips. Even on them, it would certainly create the impression that the parents, and especially the father, wanted a son really badly. Besides, this name sounds more like the name of middle-aged to old, fat, loud-mouthed, obnoxious, sexist jerks anyway, so it would be a bit mean to name your daughter a name that reminds people of the sort of men who treat people like her like garbage because she's female.

As a nickname, fine. But not as the full first name. How limiting for a child to be stuck with "Jimmie" for his/her entire life! Cut 'em a break and give them the whole enchilda -- James or Jamie -- from the start and let "Jimmie" happen or not on its own.

I LOVE this name. It makes me think of a cute little boy. If I had a son, I would totally name him Jimmie. Oddly enough, my band teacher in high school had this name, but he was middle-aged.
