This is also frequently used in Spanish-speaking countries, as José is often used in combination with other names (e.g. José María, José Miguel, José Ramón...) where the stress moves away from José and onto the second name (as if they were read "Josemari", "Josemiguel", "Joserramón"...). Because of that, it's common for these men to simply go by Jose (which may be written with or without the diacritic, but pronounced as if it didn't have it).Pronunciation would thus be /ˈxo.se/.
