My grandmother always went by Mickey so it was a long time before I found out that her real name was actually Marion, and when I did I was shocked because Marion is such a cool name that I couldn't fathom why she wouldn't flaunt it.It's rare, it's classic, it has nice moderation between being long but not too long (i.e., it's three syllables whilst still containing no more than six letters), it has ties to the classic story of Robin Hood... I can't understand why it's not more popular nowadays!I think if you had twins/a boy and a girl it'd be neat to name them Marion and Marius.
I like this name for a girl. Hope it would be used more someday.
Beautiful, classic name overdue for a comeback! I know a Marion who’s a child and it’s very unique as there aren’t many young Marions.
A sophisticated and elegant name, classic, much better than the simple Mary.
I would spell it as Marione. Sounds nice though.
Lovely name!
I love this as a girl's name. It's such a wonderful name. I love the combinations Marion Anne and Marion.
My name is Marion. It has been passed down through for 5 generations. I didn’t like it growing up because it was different. But then I realized how honorable it was to have that name! It is labeled as French and English. My great-great-grandmother was a maid servant in Queen Victoria’s Balmoral castle in Scotland which is pretty cool.
I once played Maid Marion in a play of Robin Hood and I've loved the name ever since. Marion is such a strong, refined character, perfectly fitting for her name. I also love the combinations Marion Elizabeth, Marion Lucia (lu-CHEE-a), and Marion Isabelle. Beautiful!
I think it is more feminine because it came from a surname derived from a feminine name that is a form of the catholic's holy mother's name.
Instant association: 'Robin et Marion s'en vont au boys joly' (from Desprez's setting of 'Petite camusette')!I love this name for a girl, maybe because it reminds me of Maid Marion. ♥I actually cannot picture it on a boy, at least not with the French pronunciation. In English it definitely sounds more masculine.
Marion sounds courageous and beautiful for a girl, but I just can't get used to it for a guy. It has instant associations to "Maid Marion" who, let's face it, is the epitome of womanhood. There is no masculine sounding nickname for it either- no wonder "The Duke" changed his name.
I always thought it was odd that this name is gender neutral, since it is a form of Mary. But I've warmed up to the idea of it being a masculine name as well. One of my favorite fan artists was named Marion. She had a terrific web comic I used to follow. She never got to finish it...
This is such a more fashionable option compared to the boring Mary or Miriam. I love it.
I used to not like this name at all, but after seeing La Vie en Rose starring the lovely Marion Cotillard, I started to warm up to it. Now I just adore it.
It's not such a bad name, but somehow it always makes me think of unpleasant women. I've heard of some Marions who haven't been very nice, but the people have escaped from my memory, as they haven't even been memorable people. Maybe someone could reclaim this name for me.
My name's Marion and I used to detest the name, but now, I'm actually warming up to it. It's not very common, but it sounds quite beautiful. I like the sound of it on a boy.
