This is like name a girl Vicomte or Duc or something, especially considering it is feminine. It would be a better boy name than a girl name and even then it would be an awful name, and if a boy named Marquise ever went to France or a French speaking country I wonder what the Frenchmen and Frenchwomen would have to say about his name. If you want your child to have a French sounding name, why not give him an actual French name?

Knowing that 'Marquise' refers to a woman, it only makes this name sound even stupider.

This is in the top 1000 US popular names for 2006 - as a male name. If I hadn't actually seen it, I'd think it was an urban myth. Unbelievably stupid.
