I love this name so much. I think it's simple but really beautiful at the same time. A few years ago, I watched this amazing show, A Small Light, which is about the Frank family and the woman, Miep Gies, who kept their family in hiding during the Holocaust. I was inspired by what a selfless person she was and I have been enamored by the name ever since. I really love the name, and it never seemed weird or silly to me, especially considering that if I ever used this name, it would be in honor of a fantastic person. Even so, all of my friends think it's funny or a really bad name but if you like the name, then ignore anything mean or rude people might say about it. Anyone who continues to say the name is "bizarre" after understanding it's history are just plain ignorant. To me, it doesn't seem so strange for an American to have a Dutch name like this and I never thought it sounded off. I really, really love the name and I will continue to defend this beautiful name and all that it stands for. After everything she did for others, risking her life to protect the lives of many, Miep Gies deserves to be remembered; honoring this name is the least I can do to pay respect to exemplar of a person.
Miep was the name of a woman who helped Anne Frank and her family when they were in hiding. She was also the one to give Anne's diaries to Otto Frank after the war.

The woman who helped Anne Frank is named Miep Gies (KHEES) and, at this writing, she is still alive at the age of 97.
