From Matrona, the name of a Gaulish mother goddess, which derives from the Indo-European root *mater meaning "mother". In Welsh legend she was the mother of Mabon the Enchanter; the pair's names, Modron and Mabon, derive from roots meaning "mother" and "son", "with the suffix on typically found in divine or semi-divine names." Several scholars point to her as the origin of Morgan le Fay; she may also serve as the prototype of the Lady of the Lake.http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/tangwystyl/brythonic/modron.html(Information from name #119941 originally submitted by user SeaHorse15)
