Usages: Ancient Roman, Dutch (Rare), Flemish (Rare), English (Rare), Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (Rare)
Other Forms: Cointa, Cointha (historic variants)
Pronunciation: KWIN-tah (Dutch) KWIN-tə (English)
Meaning: Feminine form of Quintus. However, it should be noted that in some modern-day countries, there are also cases where this name is a short form of names like Quintilla, Quintina and Quintiana. Known bearers of this name include saint Quinta (or Cointa) of Alexandria (3rd century AD) and the Roman aristocratic matron Claudia Quinta (3rd century BC), who was considered to be one of the most virtuous women in Rome in her time.
Note: the historic variants listed in this entry (namely, Cointa and Cointha) are both latinizations of Kointa, which is the hellenized form of Quinta. Also see the entry for Cointus in the Submitted Names Database, which is the masculine counterpart.

- The usage of the name in Portuguese appears to be a fairly recent phenomenon, as searching on FamilySearch shows that there were no bearers in Portugal in (relatively) older times, while the bearers that it shows for Brazil all appear to be Italian immigrants. But if you then search for bearers on LinkedIn, you will see that there are some living bearers in Portugal, but none in Brazil.
