In Minnesota Roland is pronounced to rhyme with the country name Holland. This is how it is pronounced by Swedish Americans. The name was popular in the early 1900's. Short form is Rol (rhymes with Saul). Also, Rollie (rhymes with Golly). Rollie Johnson was a popular sportscaster on Twin Cities TV in the 1950's.
The reason I know this is because I am a Swedish American named Roland.
