This is actually cute, I could see it making a comeback.
I prefer it as a nickname for Ronan or Ronald. For a girl it is a cute nickname for Ronja, Ronia or Veronica.
I also kind of like it on its own because the Hebrew name Roni means "joy, song" (pronounced like Ronnie) and I think it's really friendly and cute.

I think Ronnie is such a playful, mischievous name - but, simultaneously, one that is able to grow and mature with the bearer. I find it handsome on men, and while I have yet to meet a female Ronnie, I would be very interested to do so (traditionally "masculine" nicknames on girls fascinate me; I myself go by Frankie).

My older brother's name is Ronald and he goes by Ronnie. He always has. Some may think it sounds juvenile for an adult male, but I like it.
