My girlfriend is named Sage, so I think it's a girl's name, not a boy's name.
Sage is common for girls, such as the name sageanne. I think of it more as a feminine name as opposed to a masculine name, it sounds like a weak for a boy/man to have it.
Sage is also a surname.
I know 3 girls named Sage. I don't know any boys named Sage, I think of Sage as more of a girl name.
Based on my research behind the Etymology of the name Sage, which means wiseman, it originated as a title for MALES. Although females can be wisemen, and rightly so, it's original origins are masculine.
I've met 2 Sage's - both male. One was about 40 and the other about 5.
Sage for a girl appeared on the top 1000 list in 1990 and its most popular year was 2004 where it ranked 361. Sage for a boy appeared on the top 1000 list in the 1990's and its most popular year was 2003 where it ranked 610.
