Salvatore is a cool name, but I don't think it suits boys under 20 years old. I like the nickname Salvo too.
I love it! Refined and strong at the same time, a good name.
I'm first generation Sicilian and have used my name proudly though not many pronounce it the proper way, sal-va-tor-eh. The Italians pronounce all the vowels and there's no such thing as a silent one to them. When I was a kid, I asked my mom what my name meant, she simply said Jesus Christ. To the old world Italian Catholics, Salvatore derives from the same roots as salvation and they equate salvation with Jesus Christ. So for a time there, I thought I was Jesus Christ. Being born on Christmas Eve didn't help matters either. I've learned to tone it down a bit as I got older.
I like having the name Salvatore although a lot of people say Salvador. I'm used to correcting people and telling them Salvador is Spanish. I'm Sicilian which is basically Italian.
I adore the name Salvatore. I had a friend in Jersey, Channel Islands with this name. Salvatore is a name I associate with proudness, a beautiful tall man or horse. A silky black stallion race horse & if I had such a tall magnificent beast I would call him Salvatore! Salvatore means to me my one true love.
I really like the name, but I can't imagine it on a person my age or younger. It just sounds so old.
I always thought it was pronounced sal-ca-tor, not even thinking about the fact that its an Italian name. I like sal-va-toe-rey too, although both versions seem a bit long. Sal is a cool nickname.
I like this name. It's very masculine and refined-sounding, plus all the ones I have met were nice. I sldo like the nickname Sal. I think it's a shame that Salvatore has become associated with that extremely offensive gay character from Mad Men.
For some reason, I always think of a villain when I look at this name. No offense to those named Salvatore, though! Wear your name proud. It's rare and wonderful.
