Séamus

Really charming imo. Only known pets with it so far. Am yet to meet a person named Seamus.

I used to dislike this name but now I think it sounds quite handsome.

My son (born in 2014) is named Seamus (his father's family is Irish). We wanted a classic, traditional name that was still pretty obscure and unpopular, and it fit the bill perfectly. Two years later, I have never met another Seamus. I've met people who say they KNOW another Seamus, but I've never met another in person. It makes his name feel special, and unique. I absolutely love it. Shay is a great nickname for it too.

I wouldn't ever use this name for any of my children but I still find it to be a very lovely and handsome name (:

It's a good name after all; it's so different from the original version. I find it very interesting and I appreciate Irish names in general. So, it's one of the best forms for James, I believe.

When I was reading Harry Potter for the first time (I was about ten) I thought it was pronounced See-mus. I spent the next ten years under this illusion until Seamus Finnegan came up in a discussion some friends and I were having about Harry Potter, and when I said See-mus, everyone just stared...
It's a really nice name. I never liked it because I thought See-mus sounded really dumb, but the real pronunciation sounds beautiful. I agree with others that it only works on those of Irish heritage, though.

I totally love this name, it's very Irish, and reminds me of a ship out at sea.

I've tried to understand the appeal of this name but I just can't. When I hear it, I think of a redheaded man in a kilt playing bagpipes in the Alps somewhere.

I love the name 'Seamus' so that's why I chose it as my son's middle name. His first name 'Connor' is so common now I wish we'd made 'Seamus' his first name instead. However, at the time we named him we were moving from the U.K. to America and every American friend I talked to about the name 'Seamus' pronounced it "Sea-Mas" and it just came too close to the word 'Semen.' Anyway, pronounced "Shay-mus," it's a wonderful name, very soft but still masculine.

I usually don't like Irish names, but I do like Seamus. I just hope the people using it here in the US have actual Irish connections and don't just like the sound. That's when Irish names become trendy, and end up with dozens of anglicizations.

Reminds me too much of the word shame.

I totally love this name, it sounds awesome. Plus, it's Irish. :D I would definitely name a child this. It's not very common where I live.

I love this name. I have a thing for solid, masculine yet soft, old-timey mens names. Though there's obviously a lot of men named this, you don't hear it every day.

Seamus is a really cool Irish and/or Scottish name. Hey jasmineenimsaj just because some Irish people are known for drinking beer, doesn't mean you should stereotype all Irish people as drunken slobs.

My son's name is Seamus Padraig. Absolutely love this name. We do occasionally have people mispronounce it, but it doesn't bother me. Many people have heard this name before and thus know how to pronounce it. I think it's a great name. :-)

Even though I tend to like trendy, and classic names, Seamus is an exception to the rule. Seamus is the Irish form of James, my favorite boy's name. And just to clarify, Seamus is not a very close friend of Harry's in the books, unlike the depiction in the movies.

How can you justify how the name Seamus is pronounced? It's shay-mus. You speak in 5 languages how can you know how it's pronounced? You have different ways of saying most words.

It's funny, just months after I posted the above comment, my aunt and uncle had a little boy and named him Seamus Blair. I've loved this name for some time now, and I wonder why it's not more popular. This is such a great name!
