This name could just as easily mean "the king's delight", with the second element derived from Persian ناز (naz) meaning "delight, comfort" (see the entries of Golnaz and Mehrnaz in the main database). This 'naz' is spelled exactly the same as well - how do you know that the meaning really should be "pride" in the case of Shahnaz? In fact, Wiktionary says nothing about pride:https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%B2#Persian (in English)Also compare the Turkish name Naz from the main database, which means "coy" in Turkish but is ultimately of Persian origin. [noted -ed]
My name is Shenaz. My parents are both from India of Persian descent. The name should be spelt as you have it Shahnaz (I was named after someone). But meaning "royal beauty" shah - royal and naz - beauty.
