In my opinion, it sounds like an old woman’s name. Doesn’t suit a little girl. Also, I think it’s boring and ugly.
I have a friend named Sheryl! Pretty name! Ages well too.
The sh combined with r makes it quite hard to say. It's the same with names like Sharon and Shereen.
While I hate the names Meryl and Beryl, I think Sheryl is a pretty name. It's definitely much more mature and dignified than Sheri and variants. However, this name sounds very 1970s, and it's not very common now. That's why the name is likely to make people picture a middle-aged woman, even if a slender and pretty one, unlike Sharon and Deborah. But it does sound like the name of someone who ages ''gracefully'' and looks pretty even at an older age, if 40 really counts as old. The name sounds somewhat more like the name of a blonde than that of a dark haired woman or a brunette, and I can't imagine this name on redheads for some reason.
