Terry Fox was a Canadian who, in 1980, embarked to travel (1 km a day) from the east coast of Canada to the west coast on foot to raise money for cancer research. He did all of this on a prosthetic leg from it being amputated due to cancer. He unfortunately never made it to the west coast, and had to stop in Ontario due to his cancer returning and spreading to his lungs. Feel free to add him to the famous bearers list. Glad to see that Terry Pratchett’s on the Namesakes list, but sadly the birth and death dates need to be updated from “1948-” to “1948-2015”. [noted -ed]
Terry Lee was the lead character in the newspaper comic strip titled Terry and the Pirates. The strip was created by Milton Caniff during the 1930s. The strip began with crude stereotypes, but eventually became more polished. Author Caniff eventually won awards for the strip and some critics believe that Canif eventually produced some of the most memorable strips in the history of the medium. When Caniff had creative differences with the Syndicate which owned the strip, Canif left the syndicate and created the Steve Canyon strip. Although the syndicate continued to hire replacements for Canif, the strip was never as popular as it had been during Canif's tenure. However, in spite of diminishing popularity, the strip continued for another 27 years following Canif's departure.
