My best friend's nickname is Tia! It is very pretty! Her real name is Ateeya but she hates it when people don't say it right. So she goes by Tia!

It is my name and I used to hate it until I found the definition for it, now I love it.

In Bengali, Tia meant a type of songbird that had many different colors and was always chirping a beautiful tune. Tia birds are rare now, and it is believed that if you hear a Tia bird, you are lucky. I take this to mean that the different colors mean different facets of your personality and to me it is an exotic name. Yes, I have been teased many times that in Spanish my name means Aunt, so I wanted to stop using this name but my mom encouraged me to find out something else and now I am proud to say that my name means so many other things as well. Next time someone teases you about your name, just remember that you are a princess, a goddess inside.

My friend is called Tia and I really like the name especially as there as so many funny nicknames to call her (I'm not being mean to her, it's like an inside joke we share) it's also so easy for infants to learn. However, I would say maybe pick a longer name and then have Tia as their nickname for close family and friends. If you are debating about your name or your daughter's name etc. don't be, it's a lovely name with so many beautiful meanings. Honestly, if I wasn't called Guinevere, Tia would have been the name I wanted.
