Description: At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, he was the winner of the men's 10,000 metres speed skating competition. He placed second (and thus won the silver medal) at the men's 5000 metres speed skating competition, also at the same Winter Olympics. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, he placed second at the men's 10,000 metres speed skating competition.
