Derived from Greek πρόμος (promos) meaning "foremost, foremost man". Also compare Greek προμυέω (promueō) meaning "to initiate beforehand" and PROMETHEUS, which are both etymologically related. In Greek mythology, Promeus was a Dolionian who was killed by IDAS.
