Meaning & History

Latinized form of Greek Λαοδάμεια (Laodameia), a feminine form of Laodamas. This was the name of several characters in Greek legend, including the mother of Sarpedon, who was a daughter of Bellerophon. William Wordsworth used it for the title heroine of his poem "Laodamia" (1815).
