Meaning & History

Despite its Russian sound, the name originated in Germany in the 1970's. According to the journalist Tanjev Schultz his parents have heard the name in an unidentified Russian film.

Some people feel that Tanjev is a masculine counterpart to the feminine name TANJA.

A relation to the Russian surname Taneyev bourne by two 19th century composers was proposed.
