Meaning & History

The first element of this name is possibly derived from the Greek noun ἄση (ase) "surfeit, loathing, nausea", which itself is ultimately derived from the Greek verb ἀσάω (asao) "to take a surfeit, to glut oneself". The second element is derived from Greek ανδρος (andros) "of a man", although there is one source that claims that in this name, the second element is derived from Greek ἀνδρεία (andreia) meaning "courage" as well as "manliness". As such, there is more than one meaning possible for this name. It could be that the name means "loathing of a man", but it could also be that the name means "surfeit of courage" or "surfeit of manliness".
