Meaning & History

Derived from the name of Caerleon, a legendary Welsh giant and king, whose name is derived from Welsh caer "(Roman) fortress" (ultimately from Latin castrum) and legionum "of the Legions". The small town, whom he is said to have given his name to, was the site of one of the three legionary fortresses of Roman Britain.
As a given name, Llion has been in use from the late 19th century onwards.
