Medieval German form of Cyprianus (see CYPRIAN), which is still in use today, albeit barely so. The name is more common as a patronymic surname.

A known bearer of this name was Zyprian von Serntein (born around 1457, died in 1524), a chancellor for the Holy Roman Emperor MAXIMILIAN I.
