Meaning & History

Meaning unknown. Possibly related to Old Norse fela "to hide", Norwegian fjela "to spy" or Old Norse fjǫl "much, manifold".

In Norse mythology this is the name of several giants, a rooster, and a dwarf. The dwarf Fjalarr, with the help of his brother GALARR, murdered KVASIR and brewed the mead of the skalds from his blood.
