Meaning & History

Welsh form of Dubricius, derived from Celtic *dubro "dark, unclean" (source of Welsh dŵr "water") and *r-g- "king". This was the name of a 5th-century Welsh saint. It also coincides with the modern Welsh word dyfrig meaning "dripping" or "foaming".
