From Latin Simonis, which is the genitive of the third declension of Simon 1, the biblical Latin (and also Greek) form of the Hebrew name Shimon.

In the Netherlands, this has been used as a Latin form of Simon (thus basically making it a latinization of a latinization) since at least late medieval times.
