Archaic form of TRISTAN.Sir Tristam was one of the two greatest knights of the Round Table- he tied with Sir Lancelot in 'Le Morte D'Arthur'. He was so named because his mother died in childbed. Tristam was the killer of his uncle, Sir Marhault and lover of his other uncle's wife, Isoult.
