Meaning & History

Derived from the Greek noun πεῖσις (peisis) meaning "persuasion" as well as "affection, susceptibility". It is ultimately derived from Greek πείσομαι (peisomai), which is the first-person singular future middle indicative of the Greek verbs πάσχω (pascho) meaning "to undergo, to experience, to feel (an emotion)" and πείθω (peitho) meaning "to persuade, to convince" as well as "to obey, to yield to" and "to believe, to trust (in)".

A known bearer of this name is Peisis of Thespiae, the leader of the 292 BC revolt against Macedonian rule.

In Greek mythology, Peisis is the name of a Trojan captive woman, who might possibly have been a daughter of king Priam of Troy.
