Simplified form of Zaal Zar or Zaalzar, which is a combination of Zaal with the Persian noun زر (zar) meaning "gold".According to a Russian source, the name Zaza is a diminutive of Ioseb. However, Georgian sources make no mention of such a diminutive. None of the diminutives that they list for Ioseb even contain the letter Z. Out of all those diminutives, Soso is the one that comes closest to Zaza in appearance.
