Meaning & History

Possibly derived from a short form of the place name Oklahoma, which means "red people" from Choctaw okla "people" combined with humma "red" (see Oklahoma). This was the title character of a 1913 novel by J. Breckenridge Ellis. It was later used on the American soap opera Another World for Lahoma Vane, a character that debuted on the show in 1967.
