Meaning & History

Appears in Eiríks saga rauða (c. late 1100s) as the name of a Scottish bondswoman sent by Karlsefni to reconnoitre Vinland.

It was used by Jackie French for the heroine of her children's historical novel Rover (also published as They Came on Viking Ships and Slave Girl) (2005), about a girl captured by Vikings in 999 AD.
