I like it in theory, but in reality I think it'd be quite stuffy and pretentious on an actual little boy. Having said that, Phin makes a sweet and usable nickname.

I adore it, its one of my top 5 favorite names!

To me, it's just about stiflingly 19th-century. I like the sound, actually, but that spelling does not appeal to me.Probably not so bad that it'd be nerdy, but I wouldn't use it unless I had no nerds in the family. - chazda

This name has really grown on me recently, and I now include it in my top ten boys' list. A kid named Phineas could go by Phin if he wanted a more casual nickname. I think with the growing popularity of Finley, Finnegan, Finnian, Fionn, etc., that Phineas may be more widely accepted than it has been.

I don't know if I like this name or not. I can't picture it on a baby, a boy, or a young man. I can picture it on a 70 year old man, but it doesn't really appeal to me. I think some of that might be the fact when I think of the name Phineas I think of the blind prophet, in Greek Mythology, that was attacked by Harpies every time he tried to eat food. I just dislike this name for some reason ... it has a lot to do with the fact that I dislike the sound of it and it has always just looked strange to me.

Love it. I was formerly pretty neutral about it, but I recently read a book for English class in which one of the main characters was a boy named Phineas (nn Finny). The more I said the name, the more I liked it.

I don't like it, imo. What I do is, could you really see that name in all life stages? A kindergarten Phineas? A junior high Phineas? A high school Phineas? Would he get made fun of for his name? Would it soung nerdy? Weird? High school is brutal :-). A grown up Phineas? An old Phineas? If you can see all of that confidently, then it's a great name to use.

I don't really like it. If it didn't sound so much like penis, then I could like it more. I think a kid named Phineas would be teased a lot.
