I don't know about the cartoon character, but there is a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine character by that name. I like it, but it's not something I'd name my kids. Maybe my cat . . .

I know an adult with the name, too. She's one of my best friends, and probably the SWEETEST girl in the world. I wouldn't worry about how well the baby will grow into it. She will. =D

I like the sound of the name, but prefer these spellings:

Kiera
Keira
Ciara

I also love Chiara (kee-AH-rah) probably best of all.

You might be thinking of Akira the Japanese movie- Akira is male in this cartoon.

This is really not my style. This name sounds like too many other names, like a combination of other names such as: Carrie, Cara, Kylie, Mira, Lyra, I don't know if that's a good example, but for me it doesn't have enough of an identity on its own. Just mo.

I think it's pretty (much better than Kiara and Ciara, IMO)--I think of Kira-Kira, a book about Japanese-American girls growing up in the South. The word means something like "shiny" if I remember correctly.

I wouldn't use it myself, though.

I don't know if there's a cartoon by that name, but I don't care for it. It doesn't feel like a name to me, and I cannot see an adult named Kira. Sorry.

How is Kira pronounced? And also what is the difference between Keara, Keira, Kiera and Ciara? Are they all the same? Is Kira the same thing as Ciara? PLEASE HELP! THANKS!

Kiera, Keira, and Ciara are quite different from Kira, though they can all be pronounced KEER-a. Keara may be either a variant of Ciara or of Ceara, the latter of which may possibly also derive from a Gaelic word meaning "fire""/"fiery" iirc.

Kira = KEY-rah. Same as all the others, generally.

I've always pronounced it "Keer-rah".

That's how everyone I've ever known says it. As far as I know, Keara, Keira, Kiera, Ciara, Kira, and Kera are all the same. It's just personal preference on the spelling. =D

One of my best friends is named Kera Lynn ... I like it spelled both ways. I think it's a pretty name. Very romantic sounding. =D She just had a baby, and they named it Kelbi. I'm not sure about THAT one. =D
