[Opinions] Ariel for a boy?
We're thinking about Ariel Jeffrey Lucas. My husband loves the name Ariel...I do too, but it's a favorite for him. Jeffrey is my husband's middle name. I thought it would be good for a nickname (AJ). Lucas was my choice, but my husband doesn't like it, but compromised because I was agreeing to Ariel. I'd like opinions, please?

I think it's great! (I'd prefer Ariel Geoffrey Lucas, but since you're honouring I'm sure you'd want to keep the same spelling.) I like Ariel-for-a-boy and it flows nicely with the other two names. Thumbs up.

Ariel is a very common name for boys in the Hispanic-American community. We can hope that some Hispanic man named Ariel will become generally famous soon and counteract the Little Mermaid effect. :)

Thanks! I appreciate hearing from more educated people (as far as names go). I asked on Yahoo questions, and I don't think most of these people have done any research on names ever!

BTW we already have a Gabriel Evan and a Jonah Thomas Adriel. Can you see the trend??? My husband loves those iel names. I like them quite a bit, too, but not to the point of making names up like he wanted to do for awhile!

i love Ariel for a boy. I think of the little mermaid, but I doubt a little boy named Ariel would get thos jokes anymore as kids of the upcoming generation will not have necessarily grown up with the character. Everyone from my generation (the disney/sesame street generation as I refer to it) will surely think of the Little Mermaid, but if they tease a little boy they have bigger issues. Ariel Jeffrey Lucas is very handsome. My person combo for Ariel is Ariel Isaac or Isaac Ariel

love it, like Arielle on a girl

It's a gorgeous name, but might be hard to pull off depending on where you live. Most people I know assume that Ariel is a girls' name because of the Disney movie. Jeffrey and Lucas are solid middle names, though, so they balance out the more risky Ariel.

I loved the little mermaid when I was little, so thats what I think of. But I like AJ and Ariel is technically unisex, so if you really like it, go for it. But definetly go by AJ with eberyone but family

I really like it pronounced R e uhl, like Ariel Sharon. My husband liked it the American way, but he agreed to the way I like. Thanks!

Ooh, goody...I prefer that prn. myself. The little mermaid prn. always makes me think of the word aerial. Lol.

I love Ariel for boys and I also love Lucas. Jeffery is ok, but not a favorite. The combo flows pretty well.

Yeah, Jeffrey's not a favorite for me, either, but I think my husband really likes using his own middle name, and I can't really find another J name that we both love that flows well with the name.

Don't do it. He'll get Little Mermaid jokes.

So what? Why give in to ignorant bullies? Ariel is a fine, handsome name, and it's widely used on both genders. I don't think anyone should shy away from using the name on a boy because some idiots might associate it with the Disney film. There are plenty of famous male Ariels out there as well (just check the comments section of the name Ariel, for instance).

Where is the comments section for the name? Thanks!

Click on the hyperlink of the name, and search for the 'comments' link from the right side of the screen (your right).

I don't think anyone should shy away from using the name on a boy because some idiots might associate it with the Disney film.I think of "The Little Mermaid" when I hear the name Ariel, and I assure you I am not ignorant or an idiot. I know that Ariel is a perfectly acceptable male name, and I do like it on a boy in theory, but that doesn't change the fact that when I hear the name, my mind immediately goes "Little Mermaid!"

Kids get teased for lots of reasons, and while I'm totally against out-there names that just look like an invitation to teasing, the problem with this one is relatively minor IMHO.

Excellent choice! Ariel is a handsome name. I like it, and I just love the meaning ('lion'). Jeffrey and Lucas are OK - not personal favourites of mine, though - and the combo flows very well.

i think it can be one of those names like tracey and marion... for boys. i guess it depends on the way u prounounce it and spell it.

Ariel was originally a boy's name so I see no problem. I know a lot of people will do a double-take, but maybe not considering the amount of male Ashley's I have seen lately. :)

Ariel - prefer it on a girl [it's my real name, by the way, not just a posting name] But I can see the appeal on a boy. Jeffrey - much prefer Geoffrey. It's just...so much....stronger?Lucas - it's fine. The flow - not so good. Lucas Ariel Jeffrey? Jeffrey Ariel Lucas?

Oh, I don't like Geoffrey at all, plus I'd like to use my husband's spelling. Geoffrey reminds me of a British butler or something.

I actually think Ariel is really nice on a boy and i think Ariel Jeffrey Lucas is a nice combo - my only worry would be possible teasing potential given that most people see a mermaid when you say Ariel

It's ok for me, I always have the impression Ariel is unisex, possibly because of the character in "The Tempest" who has an unspecified gender. I'm not to keen on double mns, but it's good to compromise, and Lucas is nuce.
