[Facts] Elzevir / Elsevier
I'm looking for information on the masculine name Elzevir. I first saw the name while reading the book Moonfleet by J. M. Falkner. In the book the character Elzevir Block is an inn keeper from Dorset, England. A simple Google search reveals Dutch publishers by the surname Elzevir and the spelling Elsevier seems to be a variant as is Elzevier. I was wondering if the name could be a form of the Hebrew name Eliezer which means "my God is help".Any thoughts as to origin, meaning, variants, and usage are greatly appreciated!
