Why? The tree sap part sucks but i've heard it means fierce.

Amber is the resin from a tree. The word comes from the Arabic 'Ambergris' which is produced in whale intestines, and somehow became confused with tree resin.

Lol, the only thing I find remotely redeeming about Amber is the tree sap! Amber resin is striking. As a name, however, I find it rather trashy, low class. That's just my take, based on my experiences with Ambers. I'd be wary of some of the definitions other sites or baby name books give.

Amber brings to mind an 80's high school trendsetter, kind of the slut of the school. She has a perm and bleached blond hair and is wearing a tacky leather miniskirt. I'm really sorry I was so blunt about it, but that's how I feel about the name. No harm meant.

I never used to like Amber but it has been growing on me lately. I picture an Amber as being average height (around 5'5), dark wavy hair, brown eyes, and some freckles but not too many.Themey sibling names? How about...Amber and Scarlett?

I don't hate it but I don't love it.

I have always loved this name. It was my favorite girls name when I was a teenager, and at that time I planned to use it for any daughter I might have. As I grew older, I realized there were other names I liked more, but still..I love how it sounds, and I love the image it brings to mind, amber the stone, and amber the color. But it got too trendy, and some day will be dated, if it is not already, and trendy and some-day-dated are two things I wanted to avoid when it came to using a name.

I like the name, always have. It isn't over-used where I live.:)
