I'm in love with this name. Aviva was predicted to become one of the most popular names of 2015 by freakophonics. I think it has the potential to become popular but doubt it will be rediscovered unless some celebrity uses it. wdyt ? how do you pr. it ? i say ah-VEE-vah.

I like it (I like most Hebrew names), but I also was disturbed by Freakonomics' prediction that it would become "the next Madison". Though I've heard that book isn't really that reliable, name-wise.

I absolutely adore Aviva and I say it the same way you do.
I can see it getting a bit more popular but I don't think it will be in the top 10 or anything.

It's beautiful. I can't believe I hadn't pegged it to become popular before, it seems really likely. (Av, double Vs, cute nicknames, etc etc.)

It doesn't really need to be "rediscovered." It's a very popular Hebrew name. I think I heard it was topping the charts in Israel. I know a girl with this name spelled Avivah. Beautiful, but sorry it's not as unique as you may think. I somehow doubt it's going to top the charts in America though. It's a little too foreign sounding for that I think. It may gain some signifigant amount of popularity, but I don't see it as being anything you'll have to worry about. I haven't seen any signs of it in BAs yet.

I don't live in Israel either. I've just always considered Aviva to be a fairly common Hebrew name and I remember seeing somewhere that it was quite popular in Israel in the moment, but I don't have a chart unfortunately. I do remember hearing that Noa was number one.

I'm sorry if my comment came off a bit rude. I live in a predominently Jewish area although I'm not Jewish myself and I freqently meet people with Hebrew names. So it just seems odd to me when people are surprised to see these names in use. America is home to a considerably large Jewish population. Maybe that's not the case where you live, but to me the thought that it would be "rediscovered" was just odd. Like worrying that the name Catalina would be rediscovered when it's simply a very common Spanish name. But I do recognize that these names can become very popular among people who aren't apart of that culture.

This is an all-time favorite that I am dying to use. It's pronounced the way you have it.
I tend to only plan for Hebrew names (or names honoring relatives, hence the recent Harriet and Dorothea questions for those who read my posts), and Aviva is in my top five. Seriously. It's absolutely perfect.

Well, even if you pick an unpopular name, it won't be "unique". An "unique" name is one of its kind.
Otherwise, I agree with Tippins. I have a super-popular name in my country, and my parents had picked it because they thought it was uncommon , and indeed it was for their generation (but there wasn't the internet at the time to check names'popularities).

i actually can't imagine it becoming that popular. it would have to be discovered first and most people haven't heard of it. unless some celebrity uses it it should be safe. it has potential to become extremely common but people would have to discover it first.

(exotic letters)
(v)
(two v's)
(snappy nicknames - avi, vivi)
(pretty unique)
("legit" for people who are concerned about legitimacy)
(pleasant meaning)
and imagine that it's going to be "unique" for any significant amount of time. Do you really think liking Aviva makes you above susceptibility to trends? How many parents who named their daughters Ava and Mia a few years ago are now tearing their hair in frustration?
Same logic goes for lovers of Layla, Adelaide, and Evangeline.

I think Evangeline will enter the top 100 in 2010. sad, yes but i think more and more people use it. i have seen it a lot on message boards where people usually dislike unusual names and love names like Jayden.

Evangeline is quite popular. In the past two years it has come out of nowhere, from not placing at all, to being in the mid-400 top girl names in the US. Many women are using it for their children. The name will only continue to rise in popularity.

Aviva IS beautiful. I know how you feel. My DH and I had been talking about using Maia for about 6 or 7 years. It was the only name we ever agreed on. Now when we've actually got around to making babies...well, Maia is still very unpopular. However MAYA is not. It's very high in popularity ratings. Which makes my heart hurt. So, my sympathies...

I really like it! It seems like a softer, sweeter version of Ava. Definitely very pretty. :)

Aviva sounds strange to me because in my language the word 'aviváž' means fabric softener.

I've heard about a few UK parents considering it. It's a car insurance company, but it does have a nice sound.
