I saw it on that show too. However, I thought they pronounced it Mih-kay-lay. The way I heard it, it sounded too similiar to Michaela to be used in todays times. Also, I think if you are using it in an English speaking area you would always have to correct people because they would likely want to say "Michelle" or confuse it for a typo on correspondence.

I took notice of it too on that show and really liked it. It is pronounced mee-shell if you're French, so I was surprised to see it in Italian too. I think it's a nice strong sounding name.

That's the Italian form of Michael, actually. I like it and would use it, but don't know if it's doable in the US since people are going to pronounce it Mee-shell and assume it's female.

I've got two woman friends, one English and one French, who are named Michele, so it never looks masculine to me and I always have to think twice when encountering it as a male name.

More to the point, wouldn't people confuse it with Micaela, in sound if not appearance?

I like it. I just think I'd have a hard time remembering how to pronounce it, but I guess eventually I'd remember. :)
