It's currently my favourite of the Ed-names. I think it's refreshing; it's got a bit of bite to it, I like the almost-pause between syllables. And sure I can see it being cool on an older person, it makes me think of an intelligent, creative type.

Ted works fine for Edgar, but I'm not that fond of it myself, probs because it reminds me of a rather boring and vaguely yuppie-ish men's clothing chain we have here.

I love Edgar! I definitely don't think its boring.

It's neither cute and refreshing nor boring. It just makes me giggle. I can't take it seriously. I also had a great-uncle named Edgar, and when my sisters and I were children, we didn't pronounce Edgar correctly, and we used to say "Uncle Egger." I think that's why I think it's silly.

I think Ted is kind of a stretch.

I was just about to post about Edgar! I've been loving it lately.
I usually don't like "Ed-" guy names- mostly because a lot of them don't sound very pleasant, partly because of "Eddie" as a nickname (which people often insist on calling me). "Ted" fixes that.

I don't think the charm would wear off after a certain age.

I think it's cute and refreshing, although personally not my style. I actually prefer Edmund over Edward or Edgar.

So not my style and yet I'm kinda loving it lately. Due to a story I read it is a southern gentleman's name. I'm trying to see it on a modern child/teen/adult and I haven't succeeded yet. I would rather see just Edgar than Ed, Ted, ect...

Edgar's a really cool name - charming, handsome-sounding & original in this day and age.

I love Ted though. I know an Anthony Edward who goes by Teddy or Ted.

None of the above. I think it's a very regal, dashing name. Mostly because I associate it with the character from Final Fantasy III. I think it's a great image and association, and it's the reason I like Edgar! I think it's exactly the sort of name that seems so grown up on a little boy as to seem cute, if that makes sense. So it definitely would still work as the kid gets older.

I LOVE the name Edgar! It's one of my favorites. And Ted is cute, but his middle name must have been Theodore because you can't really get Ted from Edgar.

I've tried really, really hard to get into the Ed names but I just can't. Meh. Ted is interesting as a nn for Edgar, though but then Theodore nn Ted is better, imo. And I think you're right about the charm wearing off with time. Its a shame because I love the classics and I want to love the Eddies of the Victorian era but they just sound too clumsy.
